Background

I believe that health & safety is not an add on and should be incorporated as a normal business activity. Health & safety is good business, and the key is to work with people.

I have over 30 years’ experience working mainly in high hazard industries (e.g., developing Safety Cases) but also in logistics, transport, Defence, construction and HSE Project Management and more recently, central government. This experience has included working not only in NZ but also in; the Middle East, North and Central Africa, Australia, and CIS. Working in different countries and cultures in health & safety roles has required me to be flexible and adaptive, but it has also given me a good understanding of how health & safety is managed around the world, which allows me to develop more innovative/ creative solutions. I have worked for large multinationals with well-established systems and smaller businesses where I have setup the safety management, risk management and emergency response systems.

I developed the third year Workplace Health and Wellbeing Strategies Paper for the Southern Institute of Technology. I am also a community member of one of the Massey University Ethics Committees. I am an experienced trainer and university lecturer and am passionate about supporting, mentoring, and coaching in the HSW profession. I am a mentor for the Australian Institute of Health & Safety.
