Suzanne Broadbent COH, FNZOHS

Background

Suzanne has extensive experience in the New Zealand work environment and legislative framework.  Her goals are to provide clients with constructive, technically sound advice on how to effectively manage risks to health in their workplaces. She is well respected by regulatory representatives, colleagues and industry.  Suzanne is involved in the Occupational Health Advisory Group to the Board of WorkSafe and is the President-Elect of the New Zealand Occupational Hygiene Society.  She has worked with HaS Expertise as a consultant Scientist for over ten years, with additional roles with WorkSafe (Hazardous Substances Technical Specialist) and larger consulting engineering companies. 

Suzanne is a Certified Occupational Hygienist (COH) with the Australian Occupational Hygiene Society and has post graduate qualifications in Chemistry, Physics, Radiochemistry, Toxicology, Environmental Science and Occupational Hygiene (WorkSafe Australia).

Specific examples or work include design and delivery of hazardous substance training programmes (including certified handler), assessment of worker exposure to a large range of hazards (noise, respirable crystalline silica, extremes of temperature, solvents, styrene, furfuryl alcohol, isothiazolinones, isocyanates, welding fume, fuel vapour etc), design and management of statistically valid sampling programmes, preparation of hazardous substance inventories and Safety Data Sheets (SDSs or MSDSs), preparation of various types of applications to EPA for new substances (including risk assessment), preparation/ presentation of expert evidence (EPA hearings, Environment Court, prosecution).  Clients range from large internationals (e.g., BP, Lonza, Fletchers, Air NZ, Methanex, Goodman Fielder) to small local companies with interesting risks.
