Denise Steele
Background
My experience spans 16 years across New Zealand and Australia where I've worked on major construction, manufacturing and mining projects, providing HSEQ management and advisory support.
I value and care for the wellbeing of people and the environment, bringing a practical approach to health, safety, quality performance and people development, recognising its importance to a business and project.
I am a solutions focused person, with the health, safety and wellbeing of people at the forefront of advice given and decisions made. Engaging with and working alongside people (workers to management and board of directors) to identify, manage, and prevent hazards and risks from happening in an inclusive way is vital to effective outcomes.
I understand the importance of good governance to improve New Zealand's health and safety record and the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 as it relates to PCBUs and Officers, in particular.
The core elements to good governance is commitment and leadership with leaders being well informed of their responsibilities. I've worked with Boards and Officers, providing advice, guidance and reports so that they have a clear understanding of their due diligence requirements, risk control methods and the systems that are in place to ensure the success of health and safety plans.
My experience as an HSEQ Manager is supported by 20 years in the corporate industry in management roles across banking, property management and transport agencies. This experience has also helped me to hone my skills in writing and reviewing policies, procedures and management plans.
