Background
I am a registered Occupational Hygienist, that is passionate about Health, Safety & Wellness, to ensure every worker goes home safely at the end of the day. I have completed a Bachelor of Science in Environmental and Biological science at the North-West University Potchefstroom and a Bachelor of Science Honours in Environmental Management at the University of South Africa. My experience and background ensures that I understand how to assist organisations / industries to apply health and safety strategies to effectively manage workplace risks.
I started my career as a Laboratory Technician / Occupational Hygiene Assistant in 2016 in South Africa, focused on delivering services to the organisations in manufacturing, construction, mining and excavation industry. Conducting on-site surveys, laboratory tests and executed analytical thinking, including applied statistical calculation and interpretation of data, implementing aspects of a quality management system.
I expanded my experience while working on three mines as an Occupational Hygiene Consultant. Executing professional environmental, health and safety management principles and theories while independently monitoring, surveying and risk assessing all operations and functions that had potential impacts on the environment, occupational health, and safety. Maintaining a risk based occupational hygiene monitoring program in compliance with industry regulations and delivering pro-active project coordination services. Inclusive of recognising, evaluating, and controlling workplace hazards and supervising rehabilitation site contractors.
I broadened my horizons and moved to New Zealand working as an Occupational Hygienist. I have mastered the skills of developing, implementation, interpreting, and training of Occupational Hygiene management programs pertaining to hazardous substances / materials management, Health and Safety and legislative aspects.
My work experience and competency extend across various business sectors, mining, construction, manufacturing, corporate businesses, government institutes, and projects. Her surveys include thorough planning, preparation, risk assessments, measurements, reports, providing financially viable recommendations and controls as well as excellent communication and feedback to managers or supervisors.
My risk assessment experience includes but not limited to inhalable and respirable dusts (silica); fumes (diesel, welding), mists, gases, organic solvent and other vapours, microbes (bacteria, fungi/mould), heat, vibration, noise, and indoor air quality, and provides expert services and advice.
I am currently undertaking additional professional development by completing an International Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety Management for Professionals.
