Background
I provide health & safety and quality support and documentation to a range of clients generating health and safety and CAA/Military aviation regulatory documentation, advising on creation of risk registers and safety management plans. I am also a volunteer member of the Marlborough Civil Defence Incident Management Team.
I have been the Owner and Director of Matrix Safety and Compliance Ltd since November 2019. I started my career by completing degrees in Aerospace Engineering and Management. I then spent over 17 years in the Royal Navy as an Air Engineer Officer, specialising in aircraft operations at sea.
In 2015 I moved to New Zealand and in 2016 I joined Safe Air (Now Airbus NZ Ltd) firstly as Bid Support Manager and then as the Safety and Quality Manager, where I was the Senior Person approved by multiple Civil Aviation Authorities to assure quality and safety of engineering maintenance, manufacturing and design management activity and output across 4 Airbus NZ sites (Including one in Australia). I managed occupational health and wellbeing and airworthiness safety through the application of Safety Management Systems (SMS).
My strapline is ‘safety starts with me’ this is because safety is a mindset. I understand no system is infallible, and it is the design of the system, the equipment and the processes that creates the context in which one operates. It is my sense of curiosity that enables me to ask questions to seek out how a system works and where there might be ways to improve it. A proponent of life-long learning and development, I embrace new concepts without throwing out embedded good practices and encourage others to do the same.
