Laurence Wickens

Health and Safety Professional
CPB Contractors
Auckland Region

Previous to my transfer to New Zealand I working on a $4.1Bn construction project at Wynn Palace Casino in Macau (China), I was responsible for maintaining a safe and secure working environment for all workers on site and leading a team of eight safety officers and two co-ordination clerks.
After 22 years I left the Armed Forces in 2007, since then I have continued my personal development as a health and safety professional in a number of roles.
I have been proud to use the management skills I gained in the Armed forces to leverage my transition into civilian life and to the position I now hold.
Whilst at Enserve, I set about improving the risk management of a subsidiary company whose contract was under threat from a major client; after spending a number of weeks auditing their systems and subsequently developing an improvement plan to the Project team, the contract was maintained.
The success I achieved in this role was recognised by the Contract Director who when he took me over to Macau.
I was also part of a team that achieved QSA Diamond award and gold medal awards for Occupational Health and Safety Management at the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards in 2011.
