Background

I have a military and policing background having spent 16 years in these organisations acquiring a wide range of skills such as leadership, risk management, project management, investigation, intelligence analysis and legal knowledge.

In 2001 I started my own consultancy and grew my business helping organisations manage their risks in Health and Safety and Emergency Management having worked with a wide range of government and private sector organisations.

In particular I have provided consultancy and project management to large corporates and government agencies such as Transfied Services, Transpower, Office of the Clerk (NZ Parliament), Housing New Zealand, Contact Energy, Wellington City Council, & OMV.

In 2008 I joined HazardCo, initially as an advisor, then as its Technical Director responsible for helping grow the company over an 11 year period. I helped design HazardCo's innovative health and safety systems, tools, online training, advisory support, H & S performance monitoring and review processes that served its eventual  14000 member companies in the construction, manufacturing, farming, and property management sectors.

In 2019 I left HazardCo to assist NZTA (Waka Kotahi) to develop its Contractor Management and Overlapping Duties framework and this lead to my next  role as the H&S Manager at GNS science.

This was a significant change management and leadership role that provided me the opportunity to further develop my leadership skills (with Board and ELT) and establish a strong H&S team to support and grow GNS Health and Safety culture.  The role enabled me to gain a good understanding of the often challenging high risk research environments and enabled me to build trust and strong relationships with the science community. I was able to improve health and safety understanding and risk management requirements, both within the GNS community and across external organisations working with GNS. This was undertaken during the often challenging back drop of COVID and the ongoing impact of the Whakaari eruption tragedy.

My current work focuses on providing leadership to organisations on the development and improvement of their Critical Risk Management Frameworks, Quantitative Risk Assessment Models and H&S Governance. I am available for short term contracted project work.
