Based in Christchurch Ken has held senior health and safety roles with key New Zealand organisations, such as Solid Energy, Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (CERA) and Greater Wellington Regional Council, where he made significant contributions at both governance and operational levels. This experience enabled him to gain significant expertise in developing and embedding safety systems across groups with varying degrees of safety capability and/or consciousness. Ken has a proven track record in effectively working with subcontractors. His background in CERA and Southbase construction has enabled him to maintain visibility and relationships with key subcontractor personnel to influence safety standards and behaviours at the project level. He also has a strong working relationship with the New Zealand regulator (WorkSafe) and has participated in the Canterbury Rebuild Safety Forum with like-minded peers who have been setting the standard for safety performance and measurement within the Christchurch rebuild.
Ken has a long track record of working within organisations that have taken a risk-based approach to hazard identification and management. Consequently, he has embedded these disciplines and processes within the health, safety and environment (HSE) systems he works with.
