Background

I have worked as an Occupational Therapist for many years in multiple settings, however, my experience in Health, Safety, Rehabilitation and Well Being in the work setting is the most extensive.  Occupational Therapy and Health and Safety complement each other and this led to me undertaking the Post Graduate Diploma (Heal Science-Health and Safety) and completing papers in Ergonomics and Pain Management.

Feedback from a wide range of industries indicates that my communication style, collaborative approach, common sense and ability to problem solve (not to mention my sense of humour) are my greatest strengths.

Being based in Mid and South Canterbury, it is inevitable that I am experienced in the rural settings such as farming and local industry. My Health and Safety experience also includes Designline Ashburton for many years until they relocated to Rolleston.  In addition, I have completed many short term Health and Safety consultancy contracts in a wide range of industries.

My study of Ergonomics has assisted me to educate employers and employees on how to prevent injury. The latter includes both industrial and office workstations/settings.  Prevention also includes Pre-Employment Assessments to determine if an applicant has the suitable physical attributes to undertake the proposed work tasks. In addition, assessing a person’s Functional Capacity (e.g. ageing or injured worker) can indicate if they are able to sustain their job safely.

My combined ACC, Hospital, Health, Safety and Vocational Rehabilitation experience has enabled me to assist in reducing lost time at work due to pain, discomfort, injury, medical conditions, mental health issues and ageing. I achieve the latter through work-related assessment, specific interventions, workplace accommodations and the design and monitoring of tailor-made Graduated Return to Work plans.

All the above services are supported by professionally written documentation that clearly outlines issues/hazards, risks and prioritised recommendations in line with relevant legislation.

I am happy to have discussions with you by phone initially and then work out your priorities to improve  Health and Safety in your organisation.
