I have been working in the field of health and safety and vocational rehabilitation since 2012. A new area of work for me at that time.
After developing skills in this area of work through hands-on learning I decided to complete further study to support me in this role. This lead to the completion of a Post Graduate Diploma in Health Sciences in 2016. Included in this study was leadership and management and also vocational rehabilitation papers. I am currently participating in a Master Degree through Auckland University of Technology completing a research study with a particular focus on vocational rehabilitation.
My vocational rehabilitation study and ongoing hands-on learning have given me the knowledge to assist employers and employees with injury prevention. My injury prevention skills include assessment of workplaces and work tasks, running tailored injury prevention and wellness workshops, work station assessment and set up. I also complete pre-employment physical testing of staff to ensure they have the fitness for their role.
Having worked in the Marlborough wine region for an extensive period I have particular knowledge and interest in all aspects of the viticulture industry. Other areas of knowledge include agriculture and food production. I have completed a wide range of work within a variety of industries across the Marlborough and Tasman regions.
My combined ACC, Hospital, Health, Safety and Vocational Rehabilitation experience has enabled me to assist in reducing lost time at work due to pain, discomfort, injury (including brain injury), medical conditions, mental health issues and ageing. I achieve the latter through work-related assessment, specific interventions, workplace accommodations and the design and monitoring of tailor-made Graduated Return to Work plans.
All the above services are supported by professionally written documentation that clearly outlines issues/hazards, risks and prioritised recommendations in line with relevant legislation.
I am happy to have discussions with you by phone to work out your priorities to improve Health and Safety in your organisation.
