Mary France
Background
My work experience included a two-year stint in northern Western Australia working as the Executive Assistant to the General Manager of Argyle Diamonds (a Rio Tinto company). The experience gave me a thorough knowledge of corporate, health, safety, and environmental systems within the mining industry as I worked alongside the HSE team on site.
I was also employed as an Occupational Audiometrist in the hospital environment. In this role I visited organisations and companies e.g. the Port of Timaru, to undertake hearing screening. I then referred workers into the hospital system and completed full audiometric testing before sometimes fitting hearing aids. From this experience, I have a good understanding of the health system and have a keen interest in the health of workers and their rehabilitation following injury or illness.
I have also worked as a Legal Executive and have found that it has complemented my present role in developing policies, procedures and understanding legislation and best practice guidelines surrounding health, safety, and the environment.
I am currently a professional member of the New Zealand Institute of Safety Management upon completion of the NZ Diploma in Health and Safety Management.
I have over 20 years’ experience working in and around health and safety initially as a Health & Safety Representative and HSEQ Manager and have been with Scope Group Limited for over six and half years.
